Out on the Desert

Out on the
desert a
cradle rocks
to incanta-
tion.
Deep in the city's shadows a sparrow
darts trustingly to receive the bread
crumbs offered it by a crying vagrant girl.
Out on the
farm, having
stored the
heavy ma-
chines, a
silent tenant
jerks
with his
soft, white
hand a tiny
weed from
beneath the
concrete
steps to the
veranda.
I have
overcome the world!
