Daniel J. Webster

The Rev. Daniel J. Webster is the Director of Communications for the Episcopal Diocese of Utah. He is responsible for diocesan publications, developing new media, assisting parishes develop communications ministries, and representing the diocese to reporters in both the secular and religious media.

Before being ordained an Episcopal priest in 1996 in Salt Lake City, Webster spent 25 years in broadcast journalism. He was with NBC News for 12 years holding various positions, including west coast producer of NBC News Overnight in Burbank and Deputy Bureau Chief in Washington, D.C. He worked at local television stations in Nebraska, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, New York City and California in several positions including news director, anchor, reporter, producer and photographer. Before entering seminary in 1993 he spent three years with The Associated Press, Washington, D.C., creating a television marketing division.

In addition to serving parish positions in Utah and California, Webster has served as a media advisor to several Episcopal dioceses and national entities. His byline has appeared in numerous religious and secular publications. And in the fall of 2003, he traveled to the American Anglican Council conference in Dallas, Texas and the Lambeth meeting of Anglican Primates in London. In that capacity, he helped articulate to secular media outlets the perspective of a mainstream U.S. Episcopal diocese that had voted among the majority in support of the actions of the 2003 General Convention.

Webster is an elected member of the National Executive Council of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship. His regular column for "A Globe of Witnesses" addresses issues of faith, peace and justice, and looks at the political debates in today's church. Dan may be reached by email at dwebster@episcopal-ut.org
